Lauren Bauer

Freshman Representative Candidate

In a few sentences, introduce yourself to your peers!

Hi!! My name is Lauren Bauer and I am from South Saint Paul, MN. I am a freshman this year and am pursuing Chemical Engineering. Now that I'm getting used to classes and life on campus, I am very excited to get more involved! I have always loved working with other people whether that be through different clubs or sports. I LOVE marvel movies and Zach Bryan. Spending time with family, friends, and my dogs is super important to me. I would love the chance to be surrounded by other people who want to create the best environment possible!

Why would you be a good leader of your Freshman class? You may include any leadership advocacy type of experience you have done.

Throughout my life, service and leadership have always been important to me. From being involved in Student Ambassadors in elementary school, to being elected Secretary of my high schools Student Council, I have worked to improve my leadership skills. A quality that I think is beneficial is being able to apply leadership to many different aspects and groups of people. I have shown this through being captain of my basketball and tennis teams in high school, as well as being a member of an organization called Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).

What ideas do you believe you could bring to the table in Student Government Association? How would you pursue these changes?

While issues on campus affect all students, as a freshman living on campus I believe I would be able to identify problems that other students may not. For example, I have already spoken with other students about an aspect of the dorms, specifically Griggs, that may be an issue to some students. The back stairwells, which are necessary as an exit, allow for people to access any floor in Griggs. This has been seen as a concern as we were told that only people on our floor had access to the floor by using their key. A possible solution which may be long term based on cost could be to have UCard scanners on the outside of the stairwell doors. That would allow any student to get out in an emergency, but only students on that floor to get in normally. I think that throughout the year, more issues may come up that I would be able to provide insight on and help to develop solution.
